Thought for Monday, 7th Week of Easter

John 16:29-33

The disciples said to Jesus,

“Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.

Now we realize that you know everything

and that you do not need to have anyone question you.

Because of this we believe that you came from God.”

Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?

Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived

when each of you will be scattered to his own home

and you will leave me alone.

But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.

In the world you will have trouble,

but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

The Lord so often wants us to know that He will never abandon us.  He tells us that “in the world you will have trouble, but take courage, I have conquered the world.”  It is not easy to follow the Lord today amid the materialism, commercialism, relativism, etc.   It is countercultural to live simply, to believe in objective truth, to give up carnal pleasures for the sake of Christ.

As a priest I have realized that every single person in this world carries a heavy cross.  No one has a perfect life.  And some carry a heavier cross than others.  And only God knows the heavy cross that you are carrying as you read this.

The Lord invites you to allow Him to help you carry the cross.  He loves you and will never abandon you.  “Take courage” he says to you today for “I have conquered the world.”  Allow these words to wash over you today.

Have a blessed day!
