1 Corinthians 2:10b-16
Brothers and sisters:
The Spirit scrutinizes everything, even the depths of God.
Among men, who knows what pertains to the man
except his spirit that is within?
Similarly, no one knows what pertains to God except the Spirit of God.
We have not received the spirit of the world
but the Spirit who is from God,
so that we may understand the things freely given us by God.
And we speak about them not with words taught by human wisdom,
but with words taught by the Spirit,
describing spiritual realities in spiritual terms.
Now the natural man does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God,
for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it,
because it is judged spiritually.
The one who is spiritual, however, can judge everything
but is not subject to judgment by anyone.
For “who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to counsel him?”
But we have the mind of Christ.
Do we really grasp the fact that THE Holy Spirit, the same Holy Spirit that is part of the Holy Trinity, resides in each of us through our baptism? This Holy Spirit scrutinizes “the depths of God”. This Holy Spirit that communes with the Father and Son leads us and guides us in our lives to understand things in a spiritual way. Do we recognize the incredible beauty of that?
The question is: Are we able to hear the Spirit within us? The voice of the Spirit is often drowned out by all the other voices in the world – TV, radio, internet, IPods, MP3’s, etc…. The Holy Spirit is constantly trying to communicate with us at the level of the heart and we drown out the voice constantly.
Are we listening to the world or to the Holy Spirit? Are we listening to the Spirit that groans within us whenever we do not know how to pray? Do we listen to that voice that tells us when we are doing something wrong? Do we listen to that voice when it tells us to reach out to someone in need?
The Holy Spirit also leads us to our vocation. Following God’s will is what leads us to true life. Take time today and every day to attune your heart to the voice of the Spirit deep within. Dialogue with God as you would with your best friend. Read the Scriptures as that will help you get to know the voice of the Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
Have a blessed day!
