Thought for July 4

Matthew 9:14-17

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said,
“Why do we and the Pharisees fast much,
but your disciples do not fast?”
Jesus answered them, “Can the wedding guests mourn
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast.
No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth,
for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse.
People do not put new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined.
Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”

===============================================

I would like to wish you and your families and very happy Independence Day.  May we celebrate the gift of our freedom today and pray for all the men and women who are fighting and have fought for our freedom.

And may we give the Lord thanks today for the freedom to serve Him.  Think about all of the people who have had to serve the Lord in secret or they have been persecuted for being Christians.  Please do not take this for granted today.

I will be on vacation next week so I will not be posting any “thoughts”.  Be assured of my prayers for you and your families during the week.

God bless,

Fr. Burke
