June 16, 2024 – 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus said to the crowds:
“This is how it is with the Kingdom of God;
it is as if a man were to scatter seed on the land
and would sleep and rise night and day
and the seed would sprout and grow,
he knows not how.
Of its own accord the land yields fruit,
first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once,
for the harvest has come.”
He said,
“To what shall we compare the Kingdom of God,
or what parable can we use for it?
It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground,
is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth.
But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants
and puts forth large branches,
so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.”
With many such parables
he spoke the word to them as they were able to understand it.
Without parables he did not speak to them,
but to his own disciples he explained everything in private.

Happy Father’s Day! May St. Joseph be our guide today. He was a righteous and just man who sought God’s will in all things and protected his family from the enemy. We pray also for our fathers, living and deceased, and thank them for all they have done for us. We pray for healing in any broken relationships with our fathers. This world needs more men to stand up for God and to do what is right. Blessings to you today.
We live in a world where people expect immediate gratification and results. When we have a headache, we take aspirin to feel better. When we are hungry, we can microwave a quick meal. When we are thirsty, there is always something nearby to drink. If we seek pleasure, there are so many possibilities on the internet, TV and in person to satiate our desires. We do not like to wait for anything.
Why do I bring all these things up today? Jesus is talking about planting seeds without knowing how they will grow and prosper. I have found this to be true in ministry. I usually have no idea how God uses my words in preaching to touch the lives of others. It may take ten years to germinate in someone’s heart what I have said. If I base my identity as a priest on getting immediate results right after Mass, I may get easily depressed.
The Lord invites us to entrust others to His care. Our responsibility is to sow the seeds and then we must trust God to do the watering, nurturing, and harvesting. This does not mean that we just sow seeds and walk away. No, there are times that we need to walk with someone for a long time. But we should not expect to always see the results. In ministry, we sow, and someone may reap the harvest many years later. Sometimes we reap in places that we have not sown.
Our job is to share the love of God with others – and to do so generously. We are called to sow seeds of faith in our children. We are called to help people who are in need. We are called to serve others without expecting anything in return. You may not see results, but that does not matter. Sow the seeds and entrust them to the care of the Father.
One day that little mustard seed that you sow may turn into one of the largest trees you have ever seen, that will give shelter and shade to many others.
Are you willing to sow seeds without seeing immediate results?
Are you willing to patiently walk the faith journey with someone?

San Marcos 4:26-34
Y decía: “El Reino de Dios es como un hombre que echa la semilla en la tierra:
sea que duerma o se levante, de noche y de día, la semilla germina y va creciendo, sin que él sepa cómo.
La tierra por sí misma produce primero un tallo, luego una espiga, y al fin grano abundante en la espiga.
Cuando el fruto está a punto, él aplica en seguida la hoz, porque ha llegado el tiempo de la cosecha”.
También decía: “¿Con qué podríamos comparar el Reino de Dios? ¿Qué parábola nos servirá para representarlo?
Se parece a un grano de mostaza. Cuando se la siembra, es la más pequeña de todas las semillas de la tierra, pero, una vez sembrada, crece y llega a ser la más grande de todas las hortalizas, y extiende tanto sus ramas que los pájaros del cielo se cobijan a su sombra”.
Y con muchas parábolas como estas les anunciaba la Palabra, en la medida en que ellos podían comprender.
No les hablaba sino en parábolas, pero a sus propios discípulos, en privado, les explicaba todo.

¡Feliz Día del Padre! Que San José sea nuestro guía hoy. Era un hombre recto y justo que buscaba la voluntad de Dios en todas las cosas y protegía a su familia del enemigo. Rezamos también por nuestros padres, vivos y difuntos, y les agradecemos todo lo que han hecho por nosotros. Oramos por la sanación de cualquier relación rota con nuestros padres. Este mundo necesita más hombres que defiendan a Dios y hacen lo que es correcto. Bendiciones para ti hoy.
Vivimos en un mundo donde la gente espera gratificación y resultados inmediatos. Cuando tenemos dolor de cabeza, tomamos aspirina para sentirnos mejor. Cuando tenemos hambre, podemos microondas para la comida rápida. Cuando tenemos sed, siempre hay algo cerca para beber. Si buscamos placer, hay tantas posibilidades en internet, tv y en persona para saciar nuestros deseos. No nos gusta esperar nada.
¿Por qué traigo todas estas cosas hoy? Jesús está hablando de plantar semillas sin saber cómo crecerán y prosperarán. He encontrado que esto es cierto en el ministerio. Por lo general, no tengo idea de cómo Dios usa mis palabras en la predicación para tocar las vidas de los demás. Puede tomar 10 años para germinar en el corazón de alguien lo que he dicho. Si baso mi identidad como sacerdote en obtener resultados inmediatos justo después de la Misa, puedo deprimirme fácilmente.
El Señor nos invita a confiar a los demás a Su cuidado. Nuestra responsabilidad es sembrar las semillas y luego debemos confiar en Dios para hacer el riego, la crianza y la cosecha. Esto no significa que simplemente siémbrelos semillas y nos alejemos. No, hay veces que tenemos que caminar con alguien durante mucho tiempo. Pero no debemos esperar ver siempre los resultados. En el ministerio, sembramos, y alguien puede cosechar la cosecha muchos años después. A veces cosechamos en lugares que no hemos sembrado.
Nuestro trabajo es compartir el amor de Dios con los demás, y hacerlo generosamente. Estamos llamados a sembrar semillas de fe en nuestros hijos. Estamos llamados a ayudar a las personas que están en necesidad. Estamos llamados a servir a los demás sin esperar nada a cambio. Puede que no vea resultados, pero eso no importa. Siembre las semillas y encomiéndalas al cuidado del Padre.
Un día esa pequeña semilla de mostaza que siembras puede convertirse en uno de los árboles más grandes que jamás hayas visto, que dará cobijo y sombra a muchos otros.
¿Estás dispuesto a sembrar semillas sin ver resultados inmediatos?
¿Estás dispuesto a caminar pacientemente el viaje de la fe con alguien?
