May 26, 2024 – Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity
The eleven disciples went to Galilee,
to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
Then Jesus approached and said to them,
“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Holy Trinity is an eternal exchange of love. I remember Fr. Barron (now Bishop Barron) teaching us the class entitled Doctrine of God, which was all about the Trinity. He said that the Father is the Lover, Jesus is the Beloved, and the Holy Spirit is the Love shared between them. Jesus came to the earth to reveal the Father’s love to the world. Jesus said, “The Father and I are one.” (John 10:30) After rising from the dead, they tried to cling to Him, but Jesus said that He must return to the Father so that they could send the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples in the Upper Room, the power of God was unleashed in the world and the Church was born.
The whole Bible is a love story between God and man. God created Adam and Eve, as well as all of creation, out of love. Through their original sin, death and division entered the world. Throughout the Old Testament, God sent prophets and kings to lead the Israelites back to God, but the people continued to turn away from Him. God sent His Son Jesus, the second person in the Trinity, to take on our human flesh.
Jesus experienced everything we do, except sin. Jesus died and rose from the dead. After forty days on earth, Jesus ascended to heaven in order that the Holy Spirit would come and renew the face of the earth. God never leaves us alone. We are living in the era of the Holy Spirit today and God continues to lavish His love upon us. God desires to share His divine life and love with us now and for all eternity.
I went on a retreat with Dr. Bob Schuchts and his team from the John Paul II Healing Center in Tallahassee, FL. During the retreat they had three people “sculpt” the Holy Trinity. In other words, three people depicting each person of the Holy Trinity formed a circle with their arms interlocking. Even before they could invite someone, a woman stood up and said, “I want to be in that embrace.” She was invited to enter the circle and almost disappeared into the “Trinity.” At first, I was skeptical of this demonstration, thinking it was silly.
When they talked to the members of the sculpt about their experience, the person within the circle of love of the Trinity talked about how she did not want to leave that embrace of love. She felt safe, loved, and protected. Who doesn’t want to experience these things? We then talked about how God wants to share His love with us in that embrace of the Holy Trinity throughout the day every day, but different things pull us out of that circle, like sin, wounds and lies that we believe about ourselves.
That image of sculpting now is a part of my daily prayer, as I imagine myself being surrounded by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. My desire is to experience Their love always, so that I can share it with others. Even in the most challenging circumstances, I imagine myself in the Trinity. While doing mundane tasks of the day, I imagine myself in the Trinity. Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

En aquel tiempo, los once discípulos se fueron a Galilea y subieron al monte en el que Jesús los había citado. Al ver a Jesús, se postraron, aunque algunos titubeaban.
Entonces Jesús se acercó a ellos y les dijo: “Me ha sido dado todo poder en el cielo y en la tierra. Vayan, pues, y enseñen a todas las naciones, bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, y enseñándolas a cumplir todo cuanto yo les he mandado; y sepan que yo estaré con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo”.

Este fin de semana celebramos la Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. La Santísima Trinidad es un intercambio eterno de amor. Recuerdo el padre Barron (ahora Obispo Barron) nos enseñó la clase titulada Doctrina de Dios, que trataba sobre la Trinidad. Él dijo que el Padre es el Amante, Jesús es el Amado, y el Espíritu Santo es el Amor compartido entre ellos. Jesús vino a la tierra para revelar el amor del Padre al mundo. Jesús dijo: “El Padre y yo somos uno.” (Juan 10,30) Después de resucitar de entre los muertos, trataron de aferrarse a Él, pero Jesús dijo que debía volver al Padre para poder enviar el Espíritu Santo. Cuando el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre los discípulos en el cenáculo, el poder de Dios se desató en el mundo y nació la Iglesia.
Toda la Biblia es una historia de amor entre Dios y el hombre. Dios creó a Adán y Eva, así como a toda la creación, por amor. A través de su pecado original, la muerte y la división entraron en el mundo. A lo largo del Antiguo Testamento, Dios envió profetas y reyes para guiar a los israelitas de regreso a Dios, pero el pueblo continuó apartándose de Él. Dios envió a Su Hijo Jesús, la segunda persona de la Santísima Trinidad, para tomar nuestra carne humana.
Jesús experimentó todo lo que hacemos, excepto el pecado. Jesús murió y resucitó de entre los muertos. Después de cuarenta días en la tierra, Jesús ascendió al cielo para que el Espíritu Santo viniera y renovara la faz de la tierra. Dios nunca nos deja solos. Vivimos en la era del Espíritu Santo hoy y Dios continúa pronosticando Su amor sobre nosotros. Dios desea compartir Su vida divina y amor con nosotros ahora y por toda la eternidad.
Fui a un retiro con el Dr. Bob Schuchts y su equipo del Centro de Sanación Juan Pablo II en Tallahassee, Florida. Durante el retiro ellos tenían tres personas “esculpidas” de la Santísima Trinidad. En otras palabras, tres personas que representan a cada una de las personas de la Santísima Trinidad con los brazos entrelazados. Incluso antes de que pudieran invitar a alguien, una mujer se puso de pie y dijo: “Quiero estar en ese abrazo”. Fue invitada a entrar en el círculo y casi desapareció en la “Trinidad”. Al principio, yo era escéptico de esta demostración, pensando que era una tontería.
Cuando hablaron con los miembros de la escultura sobre su experiencia, la persona dentro del círculo de amor de la Trinidad habló sobre cómo ella no quería dejar ese abrazo de amor. Se sentía segura, amada y protegida. ¿Quién no quiere experimentar estas cosas? Luego hablamos de cómo Dios quiere compartir Su amor con nosotros en ese abrazo de la Santísima Trinidad a través de cada día, pero diferentes cosas nos sacan de ese círculo, como el pecado, heridas y mentiras que creemos sobre nosotros mismos.
Esa imagen de esculpir ahora es parte de mi oración diaria, ya que me imagino rodeado por el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo. Mi deseo es experimentar su amor siempre, para poder compartirlo con los demás. Incluso en las circunstancias más difíciles, me imagino en la Trinidad. Mientras hago las tareas mundanas del día, me imagino en la Trinidad. Jesús dijo: “Yo soy la vid, y ustedes los sarmientos. Quien permanezca en mí y yo en él, dará mucho fruto, porque sin mí no pueden hacer nada.” Juan 15, 5)
